Nice to meet you, I'm Ana. I'm here to provide you with the ultimate portrait experience. Wether is your newborn photo session, cake smash photo session, or maternity photo session, my goal is for you to feel taken care of. Can't wait to hear from you!
If you are reading this, it means you probably have a newborn session coming soon or are interested in booking one with your favorite Edmonton newborn photographer (that’s me!). Here, I want to share everything you need to know to better prepare for your newborn photo session in Edmonton and learn what to expect.
I’m so excited to be your newborn photographer, and I feel honoured to have been chosen to capture your family’s most precious moments. I’ve put together my best tips and tricks for you to prepare for your session. This guide includes outfit and colour palette ideas, what to expect, and more. I have extensive experience working with babies and kids, and I’ve learned the best strategies to get the most out of your photo session. I look forward to working with you!
It probably sounds like a really long time, but throughout the session, we will allow enough time for feeding breaks and diaper changes. The baby fully determines the session length.
I can’t guarantee specific poses since my priority is the baby’s comfort. I will work through my regular workflow, but if at any point the baby doesn’t want to pose a certain way, I won’t force it. That being said, I will for sure work around them to get you a beautiful gallery with beautiful images that are consistent with my work.
My goal is for you to be comfortable during your session. I have a comfy couch, a snack bar, coffee, and tea for you to enjoy while I take your baby’s photos. If you have young children, I have a small play area with toys for them to entertain themselves. I want you to take a break; I will take care of everything.
Even if you don’t plan on using pacifiers, having one available for the session is super convenient when the baby just needs something to soothe but isn’t really hungry. Pacifiers help to keep them content while posing, which means I can get more variety in the session. Using a pacifier during their session will not impact their feeding since it will only be for a short period of time.
If you are breastfeeding, you can bring a bottle of pumped milk or even a pump to the studio. If you are using formula, you can bring whichever formula you use. Bottles are convenient since I can easily feed the baby while they are posed. That being said, if you prefer to nurse them, I have a nursing pillow available for you to use, too. I also have a bottle warmer if needed.
I have all the outfits and wraps needed for the session here, so you don’t need to worry about putting them on their best outfits. Sleepers are easy to remove without bothering the baby, as I don’t have to pull anything over their head. You also don’t need to bring any accessories or anything extra clothing-wise.
I don’t need you to rush in the morning to get ready for your photos. You can use the time at the studio to do your hair and makeup while I take your baby photos. Or, if you prefer to get it professionally done, I can also arrange for an HMUA to come to the studio and pamper you while we work.
I hope all these tips have been helpful and that they have helped you determine the best ways to prepare for your newborn photo session in Edmonton with Ana Salas Photography.

I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!
